Supported Living Services are community based programs that provide our clients with the supports to live semi-independently in their own home. If necessary, we can assist our clients to find suitable placement in the community including roommates and financial services. To encourage community integration and independence, we coordinate with vocational or activity programs to further our clients potential for success. We strive to match the broad spectrum of personalities between residents and caregivers. We provide 24 hour staffing with a ratio of no less than 1 staff to 3 clients to ensure a high level of support. All of our staff are closely screened with full BCCU background check.
Among the variety services we provide, Daily Living Skills, Healthcare Management, Financial Services and support with personal goals are central to our program. These are Key factors in providing an intensive person centered approach to caregiving. Please read about them in the following sections.
Supported Living
Daily Living Skills
Daily Living Skills are the activities that are central to everyday life. These include: personal hygiene, meal preparation, housekeeping, shopping and interacting with others. Our caregivers provide as much or a little direction as necessary. If required we can provide full assistance to achieve successful completion of daily living activities. If possible, we strive to involve our clients in every aspect of their personal shopping, finances and community access. We encourage progress toward independence in all areas of daily life. Our philosophy is that personal responsibility at home, with ourselves and in the community are central in building independence. We model successful interactions between caregivers, residents and people in the community.
Healthcare Management
One of our primary roles as a supported living provider is monitor the health our clients. Although we do not provide medical services, we coordinate with independent healthcare providers such as Primary Care Physicians, Mental Health counselors or Psychiatrists. We monitor each client’s general health and schedule, accompany and transport them to regular healthcare appointments. All of our staff are trained in First Aid, CPR, Blood borne Pathogens and have a current NAR credential.. Our delegating nurse can train our staff on non-medical tasks and monitor them if necessary. We can respond in emergency situations by contacting EMS or the Fire Dept. if necessary. Also, to ensure the fullest understanding of our clients’ medical history and needs, family are welcome to attend all medical appointments.
Financial Services
We offer financial services for our clients that include: support to monitor and pay personal bills, budgeting, tracking daily expenses and long term financial planning. Quarterly reports can be prepared for parents and Guardians in order to comply with Guardianship legal requirements. All of our clients’ accounts are reconciled and verified in compliance with the Washing Administration Code and the Division of Disabilities Administration.
Goals and Individual Instruction
Individual instruction and goal implemetation is a crucial component of the support that we provide. Supported Living focuses on expanding ones abilities. Each client is encouraged to participate in planning personal goals with the support of their family. Individual Instruction and Support Plans are created to help detail personal goals that range from accessing community events to saving for a vacation. A person centerd approach is much more that sustaining a healthy lifestyle, but building upon success.
Home Based Community Support
We provide support in our clients’ homes, but can also help them to find placement in the community. Often we can match our clients in a house setting with several roommates or a two bedroom apartment with one roommate. To promote community integration, we do not make any exterior modifications to rental properties unless ramps are required for wheelchair accessibility. These home based settings allow for the greatest amount of support for clients that may need continuous access to staff. The rentals do not exceed more than 4 housemates and not less than 1 caregiver for every 3 clients.
Private Apartment Living
. An apartment lifestyle is preferable for individuals that prefer greater flexibility and walking access to the community. Our more active clients tend to prefer these units as they can offer a more independent situation with close access to bus routes, shopping and local attractions. These units are Section 8 approved and support a mixed population of people on assistance or renting privately. Residents can enjoy the 24 hour staff availability or have independent time with access to staffing that is nearby with other residents.
